Workshops

Sing for the soul

A Voice Workshop With Erica Dee

Erica Dee has been touring the world as a professional singer for over a decade. Drawing from her own life and passions, Erica has created a unique experience using practices and activities that focus on using mind, body & spirit for a new way of vocalizing. With the influence of Bobby McFerrin's Voicestra, Traditional East Indian singing, Hip-Hop, R&B, and her studies at Selkirk Music College, Erica provides a soul- opening workshop for all levels of individuals wanting to explore creative expression using the voice & the body. Taking you through a journey, she includes a guided meditation, stretching, breathing exercises, vocal techniques, tone refinement, rhythm structure, harmonizing, dance and more! This is a fun, open, and safe way to create with your voice, while obtaining new information on how to sing and how to improvise. Let's turn our wishes into lyrics and record a collaborative song!

Paint Your Spirit Animal

Arts workshop with Broderick Wong

It is believed that we are all connected to animals, to the earth and to the sky. Spirit animals represent special qualities and traits that best convey your inner Spirit. Come discover your animal sign and then capture it in vibrant water colors as Broderick guides you to swish and splatter your way to your very own Spirit Animal Portrait. Workshop is open to all levels, no experience necessary.

Round Dance

Arts Workshop with Emma Hassencahl

The workshop will require participation of many people to "ink-up' or "paint-up" their feet and dance in a circle on a canvas. The Round Dance is often a social dance used to foster community strength. The Round Dance is also ceremonial, a healing-dance that serves as prayer or a community or family/person within the community. I would like to document the Round Dance as an act of coming together, in whatever way people want to approach it.

Representing Yourself

Social Media, Professionalism Workshop with Alexandra

This workshop is based around self care, self awareness, and professionalism. The way we represent ourselves starts inside our hearts. Our greatest obstacles are not circumstances, but ourselves. We will be focusing on how we can better ourselves and have a more positive image of ourselves both on and outside of social media.

Collective Storytelling

Spoken Word and Poetry event hosted by Mariah Dear

The event will be a performance, speaker series, and critical talk featuring local poets and spoken word artists. The public will engage in a process of creative reflection, on how the significance of our personal stories and the communities we belong to relate to the past 150 years of Canada. Share the changes that will build on our success to improve our communities and country. Things might end up getting a bit heavy so we have pizza for everyone and seats.

Creating Narrative

An acryla gouache workshop with Caitlin McDonagh

Storytelling, tall tales and folklore are all ways of sharing history and information with each other. We add our own personalities and ideas to them, which grow into larger than life, fantastical stories with strong narratives. In this workshop we will take a look at creating narratives within art. Who is your character(s)? Who or what are they interacting with? Let's find out! We will be using Holbein Acrylagouache paints on watercolor paper. These dry matte, flat, and are perfect for adding lots of layers and details to the illustrative narratives you will create!
