The historic Maligne Lake Chalet reopened to visitors to Jasper, Canada in 2011 after more than 40 years of dormancy. Situated on a high knoll overlooking Maligne Lake, the log chalet, guest house, washhouse and cache lodge has undergone a major restoration to its classic Rocky Mountain architecture and will once again offer luxurious accommodations within the famed Canadian National Park.
In its heyday, the Maligne Lake Chalet rivalled Jasper Park Lodge as the largest and most luxurious accommodation in all of Jasper National Park. In the late 60s, as accessibility to the area became much easier, the facility became somewhat obsolete and fell into disrepair, which was surely accelerated by the harsh Rocky Mountain winters. However, in 1987 the federal government began a project to stabilize and ultimately revitalize this classic Canadian facility.
Although it has been some time since it housed guests, the Maligne Lake Chalet has now been expertly restored by master Jasper craftsman Floyd Coleman and will offer an unrivalled romantic Rocky Mountain setting for up to 80 guests.
Maligne Lake is the second largest glacier-fed lake in the world and Spirit Island, which sits stoically in the lake’s impossibly blue water, is among the most photographed vistas in all of the Rocky Mountains. With these incredible mountain views and the fresh mountain air, Maligne Lake Chalet is sure to capture the imagination of all guests for many years to come.
