Artword used to be the name of the theatre-gallery that director/playwright Ronald Weihs and designer/artist/manager Judith Sandiford had in Toronto, before this building leased was sold for condominium development. In 2007, they relocated to Hamilton, and set up a non-profit corporation called Artword Cultural Projects, in order to develop theatre works. Artword Theatre is known for mixing music, text, and the visual together, as well as fostering the development and performance of theatre, music, dance, and multimedia works.
Today, Artword Artbar has become a hangout for Mohawk College jazzers, bluegrass pickers, singalong folkies, spoken-word poets and off-the-wall theatre types. Unique to the space is the art on the wall, both upstairs and downstairs.
