The Art Gallery of Hamilton (AGH) is home to a comprehensive collection of Canadian historical, contemporary art, an impressive European collection, and various exhibits featuring the city of Hamilton itself. AGH hosts an exciting schedule of varied exhibitions and programming; most, if not all of their galleries contain exhibits that change throughout the year. One of the permanent collections was actually donated after it was the AGH’s inaugural exhibit of paintings; this exhibit featured 33 works of Canada’s first Impressionist, Hamilton-born William Blair Bruce (1859-1906), and now exists as the “Bruce Collection”.

The AGH supports a variety of educational programming and tours, relevant to English and Arts curricula. This educational programming can support teaching objectives such as making connections between critical thinking and art, developing vocabulary, and enhancing appreciation for art.
